Food Banks, Schools, and CTED Share Best Practices to Reduce Hunger
The Des Moines Area Food Bank realized that local students might be hungry over the weekend because 60 percent of local kids qualified for free and reduced lunch. In response, the Des Moines Area Food Bank worked with the school and local organizations to distribute backpacks full of food on Fridays so that kids have food for the weekend. The program was so popular that CTED has adopted it as a statewide model for food distribution.
