Community Services Block Grant
A comprehensive granting program to assist local communities in combating poverty
Purpose
The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) provides funding, technical assistance and support to 31 statewide Community Action Agencies (CAAs) and their Association to both ease the effects of poverty and eliminate the causes of poverty.
Results and Achievements
From January through December 2005, the network served 605,747 people in 245,529 households. In addition to supporting major CTED housing, food, and energy programs, CSBG filled gaps in local services and raises the bar for innovative solutions to social/economic issues. In 2005:
· 2,330 people gained employment.
· 42,058 people improved their self sufficiency.
· 1,222,027 volunteer hours were counted.
Performance Measures
Forty-five thousand people statewide will improve self-sufficiency as a result of Community Action Agency (CAAs) services.
Services
CAAs prioritize services according to a local needs assessment. Services include housing, energy assistance, nutrition, employment and training as well as transportation, family development, health care, emergency food and shelter and asset development. CAAs are charged with bringing all sectors together to strengthen community well being. In 2005, CAAs partnered with 2,430 other organizations to expand resources and opportunities.
