About the Housing Division

Vision and Mission

The Housing Division (HSD) invests public resources to create, preserve and enhance safe and affordable housing for Washington residents.

We work in partnership with private lenders, non-profit organizations, local governments, other state agencies and the federal government to strategically invest in affordable housing opportunities for the maximum number of households our combined resources will allow. Low-income individuals and families, farmworkers and persons with special needs benefit from state Housing Services programs. We contribute to a vital safety net of emergency shelters and transitional housing programs for homeless families and individuals statewide.

Strategic Goals

  • Create sustainable, affordable housing for low-income households and persons with special needs.
  • Preserve and improve existing affordable housing.
  • Assist vulnerable families and individuals with services to meet their basic housing needs.
