CJ Report 2004

The Criminal Justice in Washington State report provides a comprehensive overview of federal, state and local agencies and how they are linked by common laws and public policy action to forge a criminal justice system in the state.

The report, developed by the Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development (CTED) staff in Local Government Division, used the input and assistance of over one hundred criminal justice professionals from across the state and more than two hundred source documents.  The report describes the operation and funding of the courts, law enforcement, criminal defender services, prosecution, and corrections. Specific chapters are included describing the impact that involvement in the criminal justice system has on victims of crime and on criminal offenders.

The Justice Assistance Grant #2003-DB-BX-0243, awarded to the State of Washington by the Bureau of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, supported production of this report. Points of view or opinions contained within this report do not necessarily represent the official position or policies of the U.S. Department of Justice or the Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development.
